Creating a moody visually strong portrait for an actress

I am a big fan of cinematic portraits and I take a lot of my influence from Gregory Crewdson’s work. Armed with a very simple lighting set up (and not a lot of space as we were working in a very small room), I wanted to combine an American Gothic feel with a pre-raphaelite twist to create a set of strong, powerful images.

I used a simple one light set up with black background.
